FHP says alcohol was a factor in wrong-way crash

Kayla Mendoza's BAC nearly twice the legal limit

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla – The toxicology report is in for a driver going the wrong way on the Sawgrass Expressway and hitting another car head-on, killing two women inside.

Tests taken following the accident show Kayla Mendoza had a blood-alcohol reading of .15, nearly twice the .08 level that defines drunk driving, according to an FHP search warrant.  It also showed traces of pot.

Police say Mendoza was behind the wheel last November when she slammed into a car carrying 21-year-old Marisa Catronio and Kaitlyn Ferrante.

The toxicology report also mentions that Mendoza was driving the vehicle without a valid driver's license.

Hours before the crash, Medoza tweeted, "2 drunk 2 care."
