Fire erupts at townhome complex in Lauderhill

At least 15 displaced

LAUDERHILL, Fla. ā€“ Residents were evacuated after a townhome building in Lauderhill caught fire Tuesday morning.

The view from Sky 10 showed flames and smoke coming from several buildings at 4024 Inverrary Drive.Ā

A Lauderhill Fire Rescue representative said the fire was accidental and caused by an iron that was left unattended. He said the resident attempted to put the flames out himself before calling 911.

Residents told Local 10 News that they woke up to knocks on their doors.

"My mom told me that we had to get out (of) the house, but I was a little bit scared," Shamonique Johnson told Local 10. "I didn't know what happened."

While some were getting ready to begin their days, others were already at work and returned home to see the flames.

Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the flames, even using a drone to help them survey the damage.

Nobody was hurt, but at least 15 people were displaced.

"My kids, they're OK. They're with me," one resident told Local 10. "But I don't know what I'm going to be doing with them."
