Carroll said firefighters received reports of heavy flames and smoke coming from an eighth-or ninth-floor balcony on the southwest corner of the building.

Carroll said a generator was being used on the ninth floor when it caught fire, but firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

"The fire remained outside of the hotel and was quickly brought under control," a representative with the developer behind Brickell City Centre, Swire Properties, said. "Following advice from the fire department and building security, guests and staff have since returned to the hotel, which is fully operational. The investigation is ongoing."

Carroll said no injuries were reported.
