OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue inspected fireworks stands across the county Wednesday ahead of the Fourth of July.
Inspectors checked a stand at Northwest 163rd Street and 27th Avenue in Opa-locka.
"The tent is all laid out. They've got their appropriate plans and permits for the tent. Everything is above board," said Javier Camps with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "The items that are being sold to the public here are those that are approved by the state fire marshal."
"Well, we pride ourselves in following the rules and regulations of the county," said Jose Canales with Holiday Seasons, Inc. "Of course, we have inspectors that come out all the time, so you're not doing yourself any justice by selling anything illegal."
"This year, I bought fireworks age appropriate for him because of the dangers," said Melissa Herrera. "I've bought fireworks from this location for four years now and the reason I buy them is because they're very safe."
Fire rescue advised people using fireworks for the holiday to: stay 25 feet away from grassy areas; don't re-light fireworks; light one firework at a time; and, keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby.
