2 people injured after SUV crashes into tree in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A driver was rescued from an overturned SUV Tuesday morning after a crash in northwest Miami-Dade County.

The Ford Escape crashed into a tree near Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 70th Street.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews braced the man's neck while the SUV was on its side and attempted to keep him stable as a tow line was used to place the vehicle upright again.

Firefighters hoisted the man onto a stretcher and put him in the back of an ambulance.

Wilbert Thomas, who witnessed the crash and ran to help, said the driver was wedged under the dashboard.

A trauma surgeon was called to the scene as a precaution.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said a passenger was also injured in the crash. They were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
