12 units work to put out flames

The junkyard had large junk vehicles, as well as metal and large debris piles, according to Erika Benitez, public information officer with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

It took 12 units to put out the one-alarm fire.

To put out the fire, crews used a foam truck to blanket the fire with foam, Benitez said.

"The foam is used as it provides a quicker knockdown with less water use due to the increased surface area of the foam solution and the resulting increased ability to absorb heat," Benitez said.  "There’s also a reduced chance of rekindle because the foam solution is much more effective in penetrating and wetting fuels."

The fire was under control after about two hours.

No injuries were reported.
