The corrections officer was traveling westbound on Northwest 36th Street when police said 32-year-old Ariangel Iguaran, who was traveling southbound on Miller Drive, turned left onto Northwest 36th Street.

Police said Iguaran failed to yield the right of way, causing the front bumper of the officer's vehicle to crash into the driver's side fender of Iguaran's vehicle.

Iguaran attempted to help the officer exit the vehicle, but was unable to get him out. Police said Iguaran then fled on foot.

The officer was transported to Ryder Trauma in stable condition. Police said he required surgery later Wednesday morning.

After conducting an investigation, Miami Springs detectives were able to identify Iguaran, from Doral, as the driver.

Police said Iguaran responded Thursday morning to the Miami Springs Police Department and was placed under arrest for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
