FLL expansion beautifying Palm Aire area

Soil used for expansion project comes from what will be 8 man-made lakes

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. ā€“ The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport expansion project is helping to beautify the Palm Aire Country Club.

After two golf courses closed, a resident came up with the "Lakes Project." Soil from the courses is being moved to FLL, and the craters left behind will become man-made lakes.

"If they're going to beautify the area and then build around it, but draw more attention instead of just having golf courses that nobody uses out there, that's a good point. I agree with that," said Roy Martin.

When this beautification project is finished, eight lakes will occupy the 80 acres of land, according to project managers. People who live there are looking forward to the day it's done.

"Just a lot of trucks coming up and down the block every which way," said Richard Boyd.
