Cops look for man in fatal burglary

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning during an armed burglary, according to authorities.

It happened about 3 a.m. at 308 NW 5 Avenue in Hallandale Beach.

Investigators said three people were in the home when Frantzy Etienne, 29, forced his way into the residence. Authorities said he was armed with a 6 foot wooden stick and became involved in a struggle with the others.

That's when one of the three people inside the home fired his weapon in self-defense and inadvertently hit and killed Macarthur Smith, 26, police said.

Another victim, Maria Smith, 29, was also shot during the struggle. Smith was treated and released from Hollywood Memorial Hospital. 

Police said Etienne left the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

According to authorities, Etienne has a violent criminal past and should be considered armed and dangerous. Etienne is known to frequent the cities of North Miami and Hollywood. 

Investigators described Etienne as 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds.

The Hallandale Beach Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to contact Detective Wissem Mejdoub at 954-457-1436. 

Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS to receive up to a $1000 reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest.
