Florida man uses modified handgun to kill lionfish 100 feet underwater

Courtland Hunt posts video on YouTube

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ A Florida man is redefining the lionfish hunt after he posted a video of himself shooting the invasive species with a handgun at point-blank range.

Courtland Hunt posted the Go Fish Productions video last week on YouTube. It shows him using a Glock 9mm handgun to kill a lionfish 100 feet beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Bradenton man told Outdoors360.com that the video started as a way to test whether a handgun would work 100 feet underwater.

"I think it's safe to say we are among the leading experts in shooting handguns deep underwater," Hunt told the website.

The gun was modified to include a longer barrel and non-toxic, lead-free ammunition.

Hunt said all modifications to the gun were done in the presence of licensed firearms manufacturers.

"I can now tell you that if a shark (or watermelon) were to attack me at almost any depth that a Glock 9mm would surely protect me," Hunt said.
