Fort Lauderdale bridal shop suddenly closes its doors

Brides receive wedding dress at home stuffed inside boxes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A Fort Lauderdale bridal shop that suddenly closed its doors left jilted brides worried about their upcoming weddings, including one wedding that is two weeks away.

Desiree Ammirati is getting married in two weeks.

"It's supposed to be one of the most important days in a woman's life," said Ammirati.

She and her fiancƩ, Bryan, are excited, but the pre-wedding experience has been overshadowed somewhat after she received a box that was dropped off Thursday at her Coconut Creek home. She couldn't believe was stuffed inside.

The gown of her dreams was jammed inside a cardboard box unpressed and unfinished. There was no explanation, just a note.

In Coral Springs, another bride to be has the same problem. Melissa Coyle received her wedding dress inside a cardboard box, too, with the same message. It's especially heartbreaking when you consider what the dress means to her.

"That's the last thing I have left of my mom, because we bought it together and now she's dead," Coyle said.

The brides and several others Local 10 found all bought their dream gowns to Victoria's Bridal Couture.

Local 10 is told a group of brides with scheduled appointments arrived Friday to find the store locked up and its website shut down. The store's voice mail was also full.

The notes sent by Victoria's said the store can no longer store the gowns, but the contracts Ammirati and Coyle each agreed to mention that the gowns can stay at the store until the wedding date.

The brides are now left scrambling, trying to find someone else to do the work Victoria's promised, hoping the store will at least give them answers and make it right.

Some other wedding dress stores stepped in Saturday to help some of the brides affected by the store's closure. Local 10 has still not been able to contact the owners of the bridal shop that closed.
