George Zimmerman trial battle: Rachel Jeantel vs. Don West

SANFORD, Fla. – Rachel Jeantel was in the stand for the second day Thursday. The 19-year-old is the last one to have talked to Trayvon Martin on the phone.

George Zimmerman is on trial for second-degree murder. Defense attorney Don West said that the reason why Jeantel did not notify police that she was the last one to talk to Trayvon was because she knew that Trayvon had been the aggressor, and not George Zimmerman.

West poked Jeantel, but she did not lose her patience.

"You feeling OK today? You seem different than yesterday," West said.

"I got some sleep," she answered.

That was the beginning of a cross examination that included a moment when West raised the tone of his voice and Judge Debra Nelson had to step in.

"It was racial, but it was because Trayvon Martin made it racial," West said.

Jeantel said she could not read or write cursive. Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda pointed out Jeantel had a different culture and English was not her first language.

Jeantel speaks three languages: Creole, Spanish and English.
