Georgia man dies after dive trip off Key Largo

Morris Lamb, 50, pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Miami

MIAMI – A Georgia man died Thursday on a dive trip off the coast of Key Largo.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Morris Lamb, 50, of Covington, Georgia, was visiting his brother, who accompanied him on a dive trip with his neighbor Thursday morning.

Herrin said Lamb was wearing scuba gear but hadn't even gone underwater when he appeared to be in distress. Lamb yelled for help, and his brother and the neighbor jumped in the water after him.

A strong current pulled them away from the boat, and another person on the boat called for help.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission aided in pulling the three men from the water. Lamb was taken to Mercy Hospital in Miami, where he was pronounced dead. The other two men were not injured.

A medical examiner was performing an autopsy to determine Lamb's cause of death.
