Girl, 2, dies after getting head caught in blind cord, neighbors say

BSO says circumstances surrounding girl's death remain under investigation

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. ā€“ A 2-year-old girl died Wednesday after she got her head caught in a window-blind cord at an Oakland Park home.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said deputies were called at about 12:30 p.m. to a medical injury at a home on NortheastĀ 15thĀ Way.

The girl's mother was home with the toddler, as well as another child, when the girl became caught in the cord and stopped breathing,Ā Local 10 News learned.Ā 

When deputies arrived, they found the 2-year-old girl unconscious.Ā 

She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Neighbor Mike Matheson said he witnessed a man believed to be the father crying hysterically after the incident.

"He came running out and said, 'How could you do this?' as loud as he could possibly say it, and he was just cursing to himself,"Ā MathesonĀ said.

BSO detectives are investigating, but they believe what happened was an accident.Ā 

"It's very, very scary," neighbor Angela HagerĀ said. "Makes you think."
