Gold chain snatched during attempted carjacking in northwest Miami-Dade County

Robbers flee scene in stolen white van

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A gold chain was snatched off a man's neck during an attempted carjacking in northwest Miami-Dade County last week, police said.

According to detectives, a white van approached a parked vehicle last Thursday, blocking the victims from driving away.

Police said two robbers jumped out of the van, and said the driver pointed a gun at the victims, ordering them out of the car.

Police said the passenger complied with the orders, and tried to protect his 7-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter who were also in the car.

While he was getting his children out of the car, one of the robbers snatched a gold chain from his neck, and tried to grab the car keys but was unsuccessful.

The robbers fled eastbound on Northwest 73rd Street in the van that was reported stolen on March 31 from the city of Miami.

Police found the van in the area of Northwest 63rd Court and 21st Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
