FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – It may not be the reality television version of "Jaws," but it's pretty darn close.
The track of a 14-foot great white shark showed it nearing South Florida on Thursday with no signs of stopping.
The 2,300 lb. shark named Katharine was originally tagged by scientists off Cape Cod, Mass. in 2013.
On Wednesday, Katharine's tag on Ocearch.com pinged off the coast of Boynton Beach at 12:18 PM. She had traveled almost 100 miles south since Tuesday.
Katherine's current journey began at the beginning of the May near Savannah, Ga. The tracking map of her whereabouts shows her swimming close to shore, although at times she does head out to sea before returning.
While not confirmed, Katharine may have been the great white that aggressively swam around a diver who had to use his speargun to protect himself earlier this week. The incident occurred off Vero Beach where Katherine was located at the time.
UPDATE (FRIDAY) - Katharine has continued to swim south and as of 6:15 p.m. Friday, she was located just off the coast of Port Everglades.
