Gregory Knepper kept explosive devices inside Wilton Manors home, police say

Police say ammunition, homemade explosives found in open closet

WILTON MANORS, Fla. ā€“ A Wilton Manors man was arrested after keeping homemade explosive devices inside his home, police said.

Gregory Knepper, 58, was arrested Monday on charges of arson and intentionally igniting combustible materials with an open-flame device.

Wilton Manors police said they found ammunition and four silver cylindrical devices with fuses hanging from the ends in an open closet of Knepper's home.

The discovery led police to call the Fort Lauderdale bomb squad.

According to the police report, the objects in the closet were incendiary explosive devices surrounded by nails taped to them.

The report said that when questioned Knepper "could not dispel fears that he was a danger to residents in the neighborhood."

All four devices were removed from the home and detonated.

Police were initially called to the home after two fires were set to the palm trees on either side of Knepper's home.

Knepper was being held on $250,000 bond on charges related to the explosives. His home has been deemed an unsafe structure by code enforcement officers.

Police are still trying to figure out what, if anything, Knepper was intending to do with the explosives.
