Hialeah police arrest robbery suspects after girl's 911 call

Police say girls, ages 10 & 13, hid in bathroom, called 911

HIALEAH, Fla.Police say they were able to arrest two robbery suspects who broke into a home after receiving a 911 call from two girls inside the house.

On Thursday at 9:30 a.m., Hialeah police said 19-year-old John Lopez Serna and 18-year-old Johnnatan Moreno kicked open the front door and burglarized a house at 980th West 53rd Street.

Authorities said the two quickly fled after discovering a person in one of the bedrooms, who police said was a male resident of the home.

A short while later, police said they drove to 70th West 53rd Street and broke in through a rear window.

Two girls, one 10 years old and the other 13 years old, hid in the bathroom and called 911 while the two suspects ransacked the home, said police.

Police said the suspects tried to flee when they discovered the girls were home, but were quickly apprehended by Hialeah police units outside. Serna and Moreno were found in possession of items stolen from both locations.

Hialeah police said they have both been charged with occupied burglary, criminal mischief and grand theft. Authorities said their bond was increased to $53,000 each.
