Detectives arrest Hialeah police sergeant on drug charges

Tomas Muñoz charged with drug possession

HIALEAH, Fla. – Hialeah police detectives arrested a Hialeah police sergeant Saturday morning after he was caught possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Police said Tomas Muñoz, 41, has been charged with one count of felony possession of cocaine and one count of a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Muñoz is currently in custody at DCJ, awaiting a bond hearing. Upon his release, police said he will be assigned to at-home status and relieved of all police duties and powers, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Muñoz has been a Hialeah police officer since 1998. Prior to Saturday's arrest, police said Muñoz was under Internal Affairs investigation and assigned to administrative desk duties, with no police authority.

Police said Muñoz was arrested in Miami with the assistance of the Miami Police Department.

No further information has been provided at this time.
