South Dade Senior High School student arrested

Victor Nash accused of sexually assaulting woman after dismissal

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ An 18-year-old student from South Dade Senior High School was arrested Friday after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman two hours after dismissal, school district officials said.

Victor Nash faces charges of attempted felony murder, sexual battery and strong-armed robbery.

Miami-Dade schools police said the woman was not a student, but it happened at the school.

Students told Local 10 News reporter Jen Herrera that the victim was a teacher, but police have not confirmed that at this time.

According to the arrest report, Nash grabbed the woman inside a room on campus and body slammed her to the ground. While the victim struggled with Nash, he allegedly choked her until she passed out.

The report states Nash pulled the woman's pants and underwear down and had sex with her while she was still unconscious. He then put the used condom in the victim's purse.

Police said Nash stole the woman's car keys and was found by police five hours later while driving the victim's car along Southwest 312th Street and U.S. Highway 1 in Homestead.

The woman gained consciousness after Nash left the scene and notified police.

Detectives said Nash provided a full confession that was recorded.

On Monday, students at the high school told Local 10 News reporter Ben Kennedy that they were shocked by the allegations.

"I really don't see him doing something like that," said Orpheus Byrd, a senior at South Dade Senior High School. "This is brand new to me."

"It was a bad thing that happened, obviously," said Joshua Palmer, another senior at the school. "I don't know why he did that."

Miami-Dade County Public Schools said in a statement that it is protecting the identity of the woman. The statement also said officials' "thoughts are with the victim during this difficult time."

United Teachers of Dade also released a statement.

"We are shocked and dismayed by the event reported at South Dade Senior High," the statement read. "United Teachers of Dade is always concerned for the safety of employees and students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Ā Our schools should be a place of safety and serenity, not only for students, but the adults who work there as well. We send our thoughts and prayers to the victim of this terrible crime."

Counselors were present at the school Monday to provide support to students and employees.Ā

Miami-Dade schools police, along with the state attorney's office, is continuing to investigate.Ā

Meanwhile, Local 10 News learned the teen's father, Victor Nash Sr., 43, is a registered sex offender following a January 2001 sexual battery conviction.

"That's something that we've kept from him, but I don't know if he ever found out about it," said Nash Sr.

Nash Jr. is being held on no bond.
