Improved technology provides improved security

Video technology continues to improve, and companies are increasingly using it for? home security.

Steven Schwartz, with South Flori?da-based Global Security Products, said his new security system called Paradyme offers the best of home security and video technology. Motion detectors in a Paradyme system are connected to cameras.

"If somebody does come in the house, it immediately sends a 10-second video clip to our central station," Schwartz said.

Dispatchers for Paradyme, in turn, send the video to police dispatchers.

"Police love this because it cuts down on their false alarms. They now know what they're getting involved in," Schwartz said.

ADT is also a South Florida-based home security company that incorporates video monitoring in some of its systems for customers who want it.

A company representative told Local 10 News that its dispatchers do not see the video, only homeowners do.

There are also do-it-yourself home surveillance systems, like Dropcam and Arlo.

The picture quality is very good, and homeowners can check in on video of their homes ?from cameras they set up themselves. With these systems, however, there is no alarm system. The onus is on a homeowner to call police if they believe they see an intruder.
