Jurors deliver verdict in deputy's trial

Jurors acquit Brent Wooddell on 3 charges, find him guilty of falsifying records

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Jurors delivered a verdict in the trial of a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy accused of stealing money after a drug arrest.

Jurors acquitted Brent Wooddell of official misconduct, third-degree grand theft, and tampering with physical evidence. However, he was found guilty of falsifying records, a misdemeanor.

Wooddell was caught taking money in a sting operation set up by internal affairs. Wooddell told the court he knew he was being set up and he took the money to confront his accusers.

Wooddell was sentenced to 330 days in jail on the falsifying records charge.

He is also accused of dealing in controlled substances. Wooddell's expected to go on trial a second time on that charge.
