HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. -

Lifeguards on Friday warned beachgoers of dangerous rip currents.

Lifeguards with Hallandale Beach Ocean Rescue will be out on the beaches until 6 p.m. Friday. As of noon, they hadn't made any rescues there.

"People around here always seem to know what they're doing so we stay a lot closer in than everybody else," said Craig Ganek, who was visiting South Florida from Chicago. "We go about 15 feet in. That's about it."

The extension for the lifeguards' hours was approved by commissioners.

A couple on the beach during the Fourth of July was hospitalized after they were pulled from the water.
