Lightning strike knocks 2 teens out of tree

Deputies say teens conscious, alert at hospital

COOPER CITY, Fla. – Two teens were taken to the hospital Thursday after deputies say the tree they were in was struck by lightning.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office, the two teens climbed approximately 20 to 25 feet up the tree in Chase Park when lightning struck and knocked them both out of the tree.

One teen fell approximately 25 feet, the other fell several feet, landing on a branch, deputies said.

The teens were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Deputies said both were conscious and alert.
