Local student named as finalist in safe driving video contest

David Ramirez is one of ten young people up for thousands of dollars worth of scholarships

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Fort Lauderdale area student is one of ten finalists in a video competition to encourage safe driving.

David Ramirez is competing for more than $35,000 worth of scholarships in the Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Video Contest. Ramirez's video portrays all the things young drivers have ahead of them on the road of life, including graduations, marriage, and having children.

The University of Central Florida student said he was inspired by the death of one of his brother's classmates two years ago. You can vote for Ramirez's video or those of other finalists by clicking here

Daily voting can help determine who the three winners will be. The first place winner will receive $20,000; second place will receive $10,000, and third place receives $5,000. Online voting is open until July 31.
