Father’s family fears Broward divers recovered his body from SUV in canal

TAMARAC, Fla. – Divers recovered a person’s body inside a Toyota sports utility vehicle that was submerged in a canal on Monday in Broward County.

The relatives of Rondell C. Edwards, of Tamarac, rushed to the canal distraught. The 28-year-old father vanished on Saturday in a 2003 Toyota Highlander.

Edwards’ Fiancée Anyssa Nichols sent Local 10 News a statement, which read:

“He was a great man. An amazing father and he loved us so much. I really just want my privacy so I can mourn. And figure out what to tell my children.”

Deputies had yet to identify the person found dead near the intersection of North University Drive and Southgate Boulevard in Tamarac, according to Carey Codd, a spokesperson for BSO.

The search started after deputies received a report shortly after noon, on Monday, about the SUV in the canal. A BSO dive team and fire rescue personnel with Tamarac and Coral Springs responded.

Detectives with BSO’s traffic homicide unit are investigating.
