1 found dead after pickup truck catches fire at Broward gas station

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – One person was found dead near a pickup truck that caught on fire Thursday morning at a gas station in Broward County, authorities confirmed.

The fire was reported around 4 a.m. at the RaceTrac at 3031 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd.

Multiple fire rescue crews responded to the scene to put out the blaze.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said firefighters were extinguishing the flames when they spotted a body close to the vehicle.

He said the victim was already dead and the body was “beyond the ability to administer any life-saving measures.”

Witnesses told Local 10 News they heard what sounded like explosions.

“It was a lot of explosions next to the pumps, you know? It’s pretty dangerous, you know? That’s why everyone started running away,” witness Alex Madriz said.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene units are investigating the death. Foul play is not suspected at this time, pending an autopsy by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office.
