Boca Raton man dies after snorkeling incident in Key Largo, deputies say

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies are investigating after they said a 54-year-old man died Friday afternoon following a snorkeling incident at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Adam Linhardt, Leonard Cleveland Brown, of Boca Raton, reportedly lost consciousness after snorkeling with a Bungalows Key Largo commercial vessel.

Authorities said company staff immediately began CPR while on the vessel. Brown was transported to Marnier’s Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said foul play does not appear to be a factor in the investigation.

Autopsy results are pending.
