‘We just lost everything’: Davie fire injures 2 firefighters, kills cat, displaces 8

DAVIE, Fla. – Alnif Yanez said he went out to eat dinner on Saturday night and when he returned a fire had damaged everything they owned in Broward County. They were homeless.

The fire destroyed the Park City West mobile home where they had made memories with their kids and grandkids in Davie. Neighbors tried to help with hoses before firefighters arrived.

“I feel lost,” Yanez said on Sunday.

Two Davie firefighters were injured while working to put out the fire. They were treated at the hospital and released overnight. His wife, Soledad Yanez, said her family was heartbroken.

“I feel for my grandchildren,” she said in front of what was left of their home.

The American Red Cross released a statement reporting that a disaster-trained team helped to coordinate emergency aid to the family of eight.

Yanez’s daughter Ana Yanez set up a GoFundMe fundraiser hoping the community can help the family recover.

“Their whole home was up in flames everything was burn,” she wrote. “Thank God my mom dog was able to be saved but their cat wasn’t able to be saved.”

Their daughter Natasha Yanez was holding her baby.

“Please if anybody could help donate, we would appreciate it,” she said. “We just lost everything.”
