MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 24-year-old man was arrested last week after he shot at another man who he sold a car to, authorities said.

According to Miami-Dade police, the incident occurred Friday afternoon in the 8100 block of Northwest Seventh Street.

Police said the suspect, Cristian Nepalty Verabelanria, of Miami, and the victim have known each other for more than two years.

On April 12, Verabelanria sold the victim a 2014 Ford Escape for $3,500 with the agreement that the victim would pay him $2,500 up front and the remaining $1,000 in installments, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, the SUV began having mechanical issues during the subsequent days, so Verabelanria agreed to take the vehicle back and give the victim back the $2,500.

But police said the victim returned to Verabelanria’s business, only for Verabelanria to refuse to refund him the full amount because the victim had been using the vehicle as a Lyft rideshare.

Police said the men got into an argument and police were called to the scene, at which time officers told the men to seek a civil remedy.

According to the report, the victim left in the SUV and picked up some Lyft passengers in Doral before realizing that Verabelanria was following him.

Police said the victim dropped off the passengers and then responded to Seventh Street to pick up another passenger, at which time Verabelanria got out of his car and struck the rear of the SUV with the grip of a gun.

According to the report, the victim started to drive away, at which time Verabelanria fired one shot, which “traveled through the rear window of the vehicle and exited through the lower section of the front windshield.”

The victim was not injured in the shooting, authorities confirmed.

Police said Verabelanria returned to the scene on foot around 3:35 p.m. Friday and surrendered to officers.

He faces charges of attempted murder, shooting a deadly missile and improper exhibition of a weapon.

As of Monday morning, Verabelanria was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center in lieu of a $16,000 bond.
