Search for gunman continues after woman killed, man injured in North Miami Beach shooting

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police in North Miami Beach are continuing to search for the person responsible for a deadly shooting.

The victim, 20-year-old Junisha Niclasse, a bright, talented dancer and aspiring nurse, was shot and killed Friday night in North Miami Beach.

Another victim, a man, was also shot, but survived.

According to police, it started in the area of Northeast 159th Street and 18th Avenue when officers received a Shot Spotter alert and found 31 bullet casings, but no sign of any victims.

Surveillance video from a nearby Marathon gas station on the corner of Northeast 163rd Street and 22nd Avenue showed a car racing in shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday. Police said the victims of the shooting were inside that car.

In the video, a man is seen getting out and hopping on one foot into the gas station. He exits, and six minutes later police are seen rushing to their aid.

Authorities said both victims were shot in the neck. The male victim was rushed to the hospital, but Niclasse was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local 10 News spoke with Traci Young-Byron, Niclasse’s dance teacher, who had been working with her since she was 12.

“She always had a smile on her face,” said Young-Byron. “She’s so energetic in terms of positive light.”

A family friend told Local 10 News that she had her real estate license and was in nursing school after graduating from high school in 2021 at the top of her class.

She was also described as polite, respectful and beautiful -- inside and out.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call North Miami Beach police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
