Police nab driver who fled from Miccosukee cops, bailed from car during traffic stop in Broward

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities arrested a driver who they said fled from Miccosukee police Wednesday morning and then bailed out of the vehicle in Broward County.

The driver, who Miccosukee police identified as Gabriel Martinez, fled from an officer during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 and then crashed on U.S. 27 near Griffin Road in Broward County, authorities said.

Sky 10 was above the scene just after 10 a.m. as the white vehicle was abandoned in the brush near the roadway with its trunk open.

After police ran the tag, they discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of the city of Miami, authorities said.

Police said after conducting a “K9 search,” Martinez was apprehended and taken to Cleveland Clinic in Weston for a check-up, and from there, was transported to jail.

After searching the stolen vehicle, police said they found “burglary tools” inside the car.

Authorities confirmed the passenger inside Martinez’s vehicle was released at the scene.

Martinez faces multiple charges, including grand theft auto, possession of burglary tools, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding police and aggravated assault on an officer, firefighter or EMT.

As of Thursday morning, he remained held at the Broward County Main Jail.
