Man dies after being pulled from community pool in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in a community pool Wednesday morning.

According to police, officers and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene in the 1900 block of Northeast Sixth Court around 8 a.m. and found the victim inside the pool.

FLFR personnel immediately began life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, first responders confirmed.

Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening released a statement Wednesday that said, in part, ā€FLPD has initiated a death investigation. Preliminarily, this incident does not appear to be suspicious however the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances.ā€

The victim’s age and identity have not yet been released, but fire rescue officials described him as ā€œelderly.ā€

The circumstances leading up to the drowning remain unclear.
