Couple moving from Miami to southwest Fla. conned out of buying dream home

Cabrera family pays $7,000 in cash for home that man claimed he owned

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A couple moving from Miami to southwest Florida said they were tricked into buying their dream home.

"We are going to live under a bridge," Ines Cabrera told WBBH-TV in Fort Myers.

Cabrera and her husband, Rafael Cabrera, said they were robbed of their life savings and need an affordable home fast.

They said they went online and paid $200 for a list of foreclosed properties in Lee County, eventually settling on a home in Lehigh Acres. They said a man from AmericanStandardOnline.com claimed to own the home, so they signed a contract and gave him $7,000 in cash.

It was only afterward that they realized it was all a scam.

Ines Cabrera called it her "dream house," but she said the experience has "been a nightmare."

Now the bank that legally owns the home told them they have to move out.
