Trooper remains in serious condition after Friday's crash on I-95

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla ā€“ A Florida Highway Patrol trooper remains in serious condition after a car crashed into her cruiser while she was investigating a crash on I-95 Friday afternoon

Felicia Andrews, 33, is said to be improving, but the improvement is only marginal, according to her doctors. Andrews suffered serious internal injuries.

New video released of the troopers car show the mangled remains of the car.

Friday's 5-car collision shut down the northbound lanes of I-95 for about four hours.

Andrews had been stopped in the emergency lane, investigating a crash involving three vehicles, when a 4-door, black Chevy Silverado driven by 33-year-old Derek Nelson plowed into the cruiser and leading to a chain reaction.

Three other people involved in the original crash were also hurt, but their injuries were not severe.

Nelson is hospitalized and is in stable condition. Charges against him are pending.

Investigators say those charges depend on whether or not Nelson was impaired at the time of the crash.
