NAPLES, Fla. -

A southwest Florida man faces felony burglary and theft charges after a discarded lollipop stick led detectives to him.

Collier County Sheriff's Office detectives said Thomas Crews, 53, was arrested Thursday after DNA evidence from a used lollipop stick found at a home during a burglary investigation linked him to the crime.

The burglary occurred in March while the resident was out to dinner. She told detectives that a lollipop stick that wasn't hers was on top of a bedroom dresser.

Detectives said Crews has an extensive criminal history with an arrest record in Collier County dating to 1985. His DNA was already on file from a 2001 burglary in Sarasota.
