Sledgehammer-wielding man breaks into safe at Fort Lauderdale movie theater

2 robbers order employees to ground, steal personal belongings

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is searching for a man who broke into a safe at a Regal Cinemas.

Police said the robbery happened March 9 at about 3:30 a.m. at the movie theater located at 6415 N. Andrews Ave.

Police said two armed men entered the theater and ordered two employees to the ground before taking their belongings.

Surveillance video showed one man walking into the back office of the movie theater, wearing dark pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

The man then uses a sledgehammer to smash the counter top to get to the top part of the safe, eventually breaking through it.

Police did not disclose how much money was taken from the safe.
