Man hit on scooter to leave hospital

Luis Cruz run over by hit-and-run driver

MIAMI – A man who was hit and run over last weekend while riding his scooter is leaving the hospital as police continue looking for the driver who hit him and kept going.

"I got stables on the top of my head. I have -- the clavicle bone, I have it chipped. I have road rash all on the left side of my body," said Luis Cruz.

Cruz also suffered a broken wrist, shattered knee cap, and cuts to his face.

He was hit in the 1500 block of NW 22nd Avenue early Saturday morning.

"A car was behind me and it was going pretty fast, so I merged slightly to the left and at the same time I turned on one of my lights from behind so they would know I was there and the car just kept on going," said Cruz. "All I do is provide for my family and think about providing for my family. I never thought that anybody was capable of just hitting somebody and just leaving."

A description of the vehicle that hit Cruz wasn't immediately available.
