Man jumps in on fight involving daughter, 2 other girls, police say

Kevin Williams, 41, arrested on battery charge

MIAMI ā€“ A Miami man was arrested Monday after he jumped in on a fight involving his daughter and two 15-year-old girls that started on a Miami-Dade County school bus, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, Kevin Williams, 41, was picking up his daughter from her bus stop in the 14600 block of Naranja Lakes Boulevard when he was told that she had been in an altercation with two other girls on the school bus.

Police said Williams told his daughter to continue fighting the girls, and cellphone video shows him slapping and punching the teens in the face and upper body areas while they continued their fight off the bus.

"Her dad got in because he thought my friend was trying to jump in, but she was just trying to pull me away," one of the victim, Shanice Martinez said.

Martinez told Local 10 News that the argument started on the bus because Williams' daughter pepper sprayed her friend.

"The whole bus had to evacuate and her dad showed up," Martinez said.

Martinez said she doesn't even know Williams' daughter and doesn't understand why he thought it was OK to physically get involved.

"I was surprised," Martinez said. "I was like, 'You shouldn't be hitting children at all.'"

Police said Martinez and her friend suffered bumps, swelling and abrasions.

Police said Williams fled the scene with his daughter, but returned an hour later and was arrested.

Police said both girls were treated at the scene by Fire Rescue.

Williams was arrested on a battery charge and has since bonded out of jail.
