Man pushes woman, steals walker, purse, police say

Neighbor aids woman after hearing her scream

MIAMI – Miami police are searching for a man who stole a woman's purse and walker after pushing her to the ground in the driveway of her home.

The victim, identified as Maria Viciedo, 77, said she was on her way to a doctor's appointment about noon Monday. Police said a man approached Viciedo as she walked down her driveway in the 600 block of Southwest 60th Court. She was using her walker to help herself get into her vehicle, police said.

Vicideo said that before the man pushed her, he politely said, 'I'm sorry, senora,'" which led her to believe he was actually trying to help her into her car.

The man then pushed Viciedo to the ground, took her walker and purse and fled, police said.

Within a minute, a neighbor from across the street could be seen running to Viciedo's side and helping her up, before calling police.

Viciedo said she only had $20 cash, a credit card and a gas card worth $60 inside her purse.

Police are searching for a slim-built man about 20 to 30 years old and between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall. The man was last seen wearing a white shirt and black jeans and fled in a black SUV, possibly an Isuzu Ascender.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
