Man shot multiple times in North Miami Beach faces charges

Nel Lalanne, 21, shot in stomach, buttocks, grazed in head during Monday shootout

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police have arrested a man who was shot multiple times in a North Miami Beach neighborhood on Monday.

Nel Lalanne, 21, is charged with premeditated attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, shooting into an occupied conveyance and grand theft of a firearm.

Police said Lalanne exchanged gunfire with Kevin Virgile shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the alley behind Northeast 159th Street, between 12th and 13th Avenues.

Residents said they heard at least eight shots.

"I threw myself to the ground," said one woman, who asked not to be identified.

She was in her backyard trimming her bushes when the bullets started whizzing by.

"I was afraid to run to my kitchen because I thought one could hit me, so I just stayed there until it stopped," she told Local 10 News.

Police said Lalanne was shot in the stomach, and buttocks and was grazed in the head by a bullet.

He remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition. He will be held in jail on no bond once he is released.

Police said Virgile, who was not injured in the shooting, was interviewed and released. Officers said Virgile used his own firearms in the shooting and was carrying a concealed firearm permit.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
