Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner said an intruder, identified as Ricky Odell. 29, jumped a wall that divides the Seminole Reservation from the city of Hollywood about 8 a.m.

He said a man, who is not a tribe member, shot the intruder multiple times in his backyard after reports of a suspicious person in the neighborhood.

The man, identified as Israel John, 26, was questioned by Seminole police detectives and arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Odell was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Bitner said he suffered six gunshot wounds from a .40-caliber handgun and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Authorities said Odell was unarmed at the time and it's unclear what he was doing in the backyard of the home where John lives.

Odell has a previous arrest history that includes charges of grand theft, domestic battery and burglary. It's unclear whether he will face charges once he is released from the hospital.
