Cruise passenger found with cocaine taped to ankles, U.S. Customs says

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. ā€“ A man traveling to South Florida from the Bahamas was found with 2.4 pounds of cocaine taped to his ankles and in his luggage, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman said.

The man arrived at Port Everglades after a cruise on Aug. 13, CBP spokesman Keith Smith said.

Customs officers noticed the man nervously moving items in his luggage as he was being questioned, so they inspected the luggage and found two packages of cocaine inside, Smith said.

Officers also found more cocaine taped to the man's ankles, Smith said.

"This is another excellent example of our CBP officers' expertise and vigilance in preventing dangerous drugs from entering the United States," Port Director Jorge Roig said. "We're proud of our officers and the dedication demonstrated daily in support of CBP's mission."

Smith said a total of 2.4 pounds of cocaine was seized and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
