Osceola Jr. to be formally inaugurated as chairman within several weeks

HOLLYWOOD SEMINOLE RESERVATION, Fla. – The Seminole Tribe of Florida elected Marcellus W. Osceola Jr. Monday as its new chairman, Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner announced Tuesday in a news release.

The special election was held after Chairman James E. Billie was ousted on Sept. 28.

Bitner said Bille's removal as chairman was based on a recall petition filed by Tribal members. 

Bitner said the recall petition "cited various issues with policies and procedures of the Chairman's Office."

Osceola will be formally inaugurated as chairman in the next few weeks.

He is expected to serve out the remainder of the current four-year term for the chairman position, which runs through May 2019.

Below is a list of the election results:

- Marcellus W. Osceola Jr.: 319 votes

- James E. Billie: 297 votes

- James L. Holt II: 105 votes

- Manuel Tiger: 105 votes

- Tony Billie: 17 votes
