According to police, 36-year-old Travis Trenard Harris struck a woman across the face and took her iPhone 4S from her hands.

Harris then ran to a silver pickup truck, got into the passenger side of the truck and the driver, 38-year-old Ramon Smalls, fled north.

Later around 1 p.m., police said Harris walked into the Burger King located at 1700 Biscayne Boulevard, approached a family of three and demanded their personal belongings.

The family complied, but in fear for his and his family's life, police said one of the victims pulled out his concealed weapon and shot Harris as he stood outside the restaurant, after he saw Harris brandished what appeared to be a gun.

Police said Harris jumped into an awaiting getaway pick-up truck's passenger compartment as Smalls sped away.

According to detectives, the robbers were followed by a "Good Samaritan" who gave a direction of travel and description to police.

Police said the pair of robbers were shortly taken into custody at a gas station located at NE 2nd Avenue and 26th Street after apparently running out of fuel.

Harris was transported via Miami Fire Rescue in police custody to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit with a gunshot wound to the leg. Smalls was taken to Miami Police Headquarters for questioning.

Smalls is charged with one count of strong arm robbery for the morning incident and possible pending charges for the afternoon incident. Harris is with three counts of armed robbery with firearm for the incident at the Burger King restaurant.
