Men sought after attempted break-in at motorcycle store

Ladder, U-Haul used in attempted burglary of Chopper Town

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Police are searching for two men after an attempted burglary at a North Miami motorcycle shop early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the men parked a 17-foot U-Haul truck in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 and used a ladder to break into the second-floor window of Chopper Town, 625 NW 121st St.

"They broke a window with a hatchet -- an impact window -- so it's not an easy window to break," Chopper Town owner Ariel Schmidt told Local 10.

The men were trying to get away with bikes worth more than $10,000, as well as $1,500 rims, when a commuter spotted the truck and called police.

"Bizarre that they would try to do it on the highway side," Schmidt said.

Schmidt told Local 10 the men ran away when police got to the scene, ditching the U-Haul and ladder. He is hoping surveillance videos may have caught the men in action.
