MIAMI – A Miami-Dade Metromover supervisor was arrested Sunday night after he raped a 25-year-old woman after she had left the Ultra Music Festival, police said.
According to an arrest report, the woman, who is visiting South Florida from Brazil, was heavily intoxicated and was denied boarding about 9:30 p.m. at the West Station platform for her own safety.
A witness told police that he saw Carl Lee Wilt, 41, carry the unconscious woman into a utility room on the first floor.
Officers arrived at the scene and found Wilt with the woman. They said the woman was physically incapacitated and unable to provide the officers with any details as to her relationship with Wilt.
"They knocked on the door. It took about five minutes for him to open the door. Once he came out, he still had his pants undone, or his zipper was down," Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said. "If, in fact, they wouldn't have said something, God knows if this individual would have gotten away with this."
Police said it's unclear what substance the woman had taken, but she later told detectives that she didn't remember any details about her encounter with Wilt.
According to the report, Wilt confessed to having sex with the woman inside the utility room until she defecated on herself.
Police said Wilt said he was aware that she was intoxicated enough where he would not trust her to operate a car because she was unable to make rational decisions.
Wilt was arrested on charges of kidnapping and sexual battery on a person who was physically incapacitated.
He appeared in court Monday morning and was ordered to be held in jail without bond.
"This is why we shouldn't let our kids go to Ultra -- right here," Miami-Dade County Judge Nushin Sayfie said.
"The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works holds its employees to the highest standards for professional public administrators," Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works Director Alice Bravo said in a statement. "We expect all employees to serve our residents and visitors with professionalism and respect."
A representative with the county told Local 10 News reporter Layron Livingston that Wilt has been relieved of his duties without pay.
He has worked for the Department of Transportation and Public Works since November 2003.
