Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo' being extradited to U.S.

MIAMI – Famed Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is being extradited to the United States, where he is wanted on drug trafficking and other charges.

The Mexican government made the decision to deny Guzman's protection in the country and agreed to grant the extradition request of the United States.

ABC News is reporting that Guzman was in the air, on the way to the U.S. at 5:45 p.m.

It is currently unknown which city Guzman is being flown.

Guzman gained notoriety as the head of the Sinaloa drug cartel and his multiple prison escapes.

The drug lord's first escape came in 2001 and was only recaptured in 2014 after spending years on the run. However, a year later, Guzman escaped once again and recaptured a year later.
