2 men hospitalized after armed carjacking

17-year-old arrested; police searching for 2 others

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two men were hospitalized Tuesday night after an armed carjacking in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police Detective Robin Pinkard said the two men drove to an abandoned home along Southwest 135th Court near Southwest 254th Street to meet with someone for an unknown reason. Once they arrived, three males attacked them, robbed them and stole the rental car they were driving.

One of the victims was shot in the shoulder, and the other was pistol-whipped. Both were taken to area hospitals, where they were listed in stable condition.

Pinkard said officers spotted the stolen car merging onto the Palmetto Expressway from the Turnpike and chased the driver to Coral Gables, where the driver jumped out and ran off.

Police later found the driver, identified as Deandre Johnson, 17, and took him into custody.

Johnson was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center after he was treated for minor scrapes and a laceration obtained while he was fleeing from officers, an arrest report said.

Johnson faces charges of grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding and resisting an officer without violence.

Police are still looking for the other two people involved in the carjacking.
