Police say woman fought off robber who began unzipping pants

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ Police have released a sketch of a robber who attacked a woman near an apartment complex in February, the Miami Gardens Police Department said.

It happened at 11:33 p.m. Feb. 14 in the 20700 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue when the woman walked out her boyfriend's apartment to the back of the complex.

The robber approached the woman and asked her for money. Police said she refused and was punched repeatedly in her face, then violently thrown to the ground.

The robber jumped on top of her and removed all her jewelry. Miami Gardens police said the offender stood up and began unzipping his pants.

The woman fought off her attacker and flagged down a passing motorist for help, police said. The victim survived the assault.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Miami Gardens Police Violent Crimes Unit Detective S. Trapaga at 305-474-1456.

Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477). If the tip leads to the robber's arrest, the tipster may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000, police said.
